Tow Bar
Tow bar electrics, hook up tow bar, tow bar brackets, folding tow bar
4-wheelers have become the necessity of our day to day life. We use
these vehicles for many purposes. We enjoy our 4-wheelers for long driving,
beach riding, mountaineering, and hunting or for sight-seeing. Here are
some useful tips for choosing a tow bar carefully:
1. First of all consider your budget and proposed type of your travel.
You have to buy the best quality tow bar that you can afford. It is not
necessary to spend a lot on an expensive model if you don't hook and unhook
much on your trips.
2. Choose the tow bar properly rated according to weight of your vehicle.
The tow bar should be so strong that it can easily carry your vehicle
even fully equipped and packed with passengers. To calculate the proper
weight, go to any ground weighing machine and get weighed your vehicle.
Add extra 1200 lbs as estimated weight of passengers and cargo in the
weight of your vehicle for proper rating.
3. You should buy a rigid tow bar, constructed like an A-frame. These
bars are more economical, lightweight and durable. Although it is not
easy to adjust these bars and it can be hard to align when you try to
connect it to the trailer ball. It is necessary to make sure that the
vehicle is perfectly centered behind the vehicle being used for pulling
it..
4. You may also consider a collapsible tow bar if your budget allows
as it is a bit more expensive. This may be a better alternative if you
connect and disconnect your 4-wheeler more often. The collapsible tow
bar has arms that self-align and is much easier to connect to the trailer
ball or hook up. You can connect easily, even when there is no body to
help you. This bar has an adjustable arm that extends and centers the
vehicle automatically when you drive off. You can easily remove the bar
by just pulling out the pins. It is also very compact as it folds up against
the towing vehicle
Fitting a tow bar:
1. Remove some parts of the interior boot trim of the vehicle. Remove
floor covering. You will find the mounting points.
2. Next step is to remove the vehicle's bumper and remove the heat shield.
3. Now you have to lock up the tow bar straight into two holes of the
vehicle's chassis legs. There may be supporting arms with your tow bar
that secure further forward on the chassis or up to the back panel. Some
tow bars may be mounted directly to the bumper in place of the standard
bumper beam and then slide into the chassis legs. A bumper cut may be
required before refitting it to the vehicle.
